Farm Intern

Greensgrow is a non-profit, social entrepreneurship project that has been creating innovative urban agriculture programs since 1997. We operate two community-based garden centers, local farm stands, and countless educational opportunities. As a working farm, all employees are expected to help as needed with tasks outside their formal job description, including chasing chickens, shoveling snow, cleaning the staff kitchen, and giving tours.

Internship Description

The Farm Intern will work closely with Greensgrow staff and volunteers to manage our high tunnel production farm. Interns will learn about crop planning, pest management, soil health, weeding, harvesting, and many other tasks related to food production. Interns will also help take care of Greensgrow Grown seedlings, Greensgrow’s compost system, and learn about merchandising and financials.

This is an 8 week position starting the week of April 8th. Interns should expect to be onsite 40 hours per week for the entirety of the internship.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Daily maintenance of high tunnels including:
    – Weeding
    – Watering
    – Pest Management
    – Harvesting
  • Daily care for seedlings
    – Water
    – Up-potting
    – Seeding
    – Re-stocking
  • Care for Greensgrow’s animals (a duck, a pig, and two flocks of chickens)
    – Daily food and water
    – Daily egg collection and care
    – Weekly cleaning out of pens
  • Weekly maintenance of Greensgrow’s compost
    – Ensure proper carbon/nitrogen balance
    – Rotate
  • Supporting educational programs
    – Leading tours
    – Leading students/volunteers in an activity on the farm


This is an entry level position

  • Some experience with plant care
  • Ability to multitask
  • Great at following instructions and paying attention to details
  • Self motivated and extremely hard working
  • We don’t require degrees for any position — experience counts!


Interns will be paid $10/hour. Interns will also receive a Greensgrow t-shirt, food in our staff fridge, and free acupuncture in addition to lots of hands on learning opportunities.
