Registration Required. Want to enjoy the most local food you can get all season long? It’s time to get planting! Start planning your very own edible garden now with the help of Greensgrow’s own farmer Deirdre. The workshop will focus on how to best use the space in your backyard or community plot for a healthy and productive vegetable garden that you can enjoy throughout the season.
We’ll cover succession planting, companion planting, and crop rotation practices that will help keep your soil balanced for more disease and pest resistant plants. We will go over seasonal transitions and how to incorporate best methods for weed control, watering and composting into your garden plan.
You’ll take a tour of the Greensgrow high tunnel to see how we put these methods to work here on the farm, and we’ll provide an example of a well-planned vegetable garden for reference. Everyone will get a handout to take home that includes tips from the class as well as a planting schedule, seasonal garden ideas, and some room to start planning your beds.
Deirdre is Greensgrow’s farmer and a seasoned demo-educator. She has experience in fostering the life-cycle of edible plants from seeding to transplanting to harvest to consumption and composting. Who’s in charge of year-round seed-starting operation for Greensgrow’s high tunnel production and nursery starts? That’s Deirdre!
