Our Mission

The Greensgrow Philadelphia Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is dedicated to promoting social entrepreneurship through the reuse of land once deemed useless.

Greensgrow Philadelphia Project is the parent of Greensgrow Farms (www.greensgrow.org/farms), an urban farm located in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia Pennsylvania , known primarily for its heavy manufacturing and industrial history.

Shortly after creating Greensgrow Farm in 1997 it became painfully apparent to founders Tom Sereduk and Mary Seton Corboy that in order for this farm to to succeed - let alone thrive -it would need a constant dose of fresh ideas and innovative thinking. So, the Greensgrow Philadelphia Project was born.

Whereas Greensgrow Farm grows food and flowers, The Philadelphia Project grows ideas.

Through hard work, a dedicated staff, board of directors and innovative thinking, it is our vision to breathe new life into the abandoned and forgotten parts of the city to help “re-grow” our sense of community, pride, and internal wealth through the best use of green practices.

We believe that abandoned land is only abandoned because we choose to leave it that way and that progressive and proactive ideas need to be vetted to make this land once again part of our positive urban landscape.

Our idea farming focuses on how we can “grow” our communities, our local and regional economies and our cities through best use of green practices.

Practical, profitable, proactive. Ideas, some practical, some grown out of necessity, some frivolous , pragmatic, some wild and some plain old crazy are looked at, tossed around, tossed back, rethought and if they make it through the vetting process, somehow brought to life.

This lifeline of ideas end up supplying Greensgrow Farms and a host of other worthy-cause entities around the city and country with fresh thinking, purposeful programs, and green solutions.
