Mancuso's Cheese Shop
Cheeses and Italian deli items
Mancuso's Cheese Shop at 1902 E. Passyunk is a longtime institution, with its mozzarella cheese (manufactured right on the premises), oil, olives, and other Italian grocery items. Phil Mancuso, who's been working there since age 5, also has his own claim to fame as Philadelphia's last hand-maker of ricotta cheese. He continues a tradition started in the 1920s by his grandfather, father, and uncles. His own cheese shop has been around since 1940.
Mr. Mancuso runs his business by simple principles - face what you have to do each day, and do it right. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he thrives on the challenge of solving the day-to-day problems that come up while running a small business. He has pithy pieces of wisdom to offer for those who ask, such as "he who loves his work, does it well" and "Repetition is the art of learning." Mr. Mancuso seems to have mastered both of these principles, as his cheeses will prove. Accept his advice that you must try his product to see the difference.
