TOP TEN REASONS TO JOIN THE GREENGROW CSA

  1. Variety!  Our CSA is not just kale, turnips, and beets (although you’ll definitely find those things in your share).  Because our share draws from numerous local growers & producers, you’ll also receive fruits, artisan breads, humanely-raised meats, and locally-produced cheeses, yogurt and butter.
  2. Quality.  Over the years, we’ve developed a network of experienced local growers who specialize in the crops they love to grow, as well as fine-tuning our own growing skills.  So you’ll receive the best the region has to offer, not just products from one farm.
  3. Less risk.  Because the CSA brings together products from a number of farms and producers, it doesn’t entail the risk that a traditional CSA can.
  4. Experience.  Visiting the farm each week is a chance to take a breather in a unique green oasis.  You, your friends, and family will get to see how some of the food you’ll be eating is grown, get to know the farmers, and experience the seasonality inherent in eating locally.
  5. Farmstand.  During our CSA pick-up hours, our farmstand will always be open, so you’ll have the opportunity to shop for more of your favorite local products.  And, in the spring, visit our unique nursery geared towards city gardeners.
  6. Recipes.  Don’t know what to do with Swiss Chard?  How about kohlrabi?  Don’t worry – you’ll get several recipes each week in the CSA Newsletter that will walk you through the more unusual vegetables, as well as providing new inspiration for old favorites.  With two chefs and a vegan on staff, we have no shortage of food experience or advice!  Plus, there is a database of recipes on our website that you can use to search for recipes that include the ingredient you have on hand.
  7. Value.  We’ll bring together a new selection of restaurant-quality foods every week for the CSA season.  Joining the CSA ensures that you’ll have fresh veggies on hand, as well as the experience of discovering new foods.   96% of surveyed CSA members told us that the quality of the food in their share was very good or excellent.
  8. Options.  Every week is too much?  Sign up for a half-share, where you’ll pick up every other week.  (Or you might decide to sign up for a full share and alternate with a friend or neighbor.)  Traveling?  Choose our vacation option and you tell us which two weeks out of the season you’ll be away.  Vegetarian?  No problem – our vegetarian share includes a variety of locally produced pasta, seitan, tofu, and extra fruits & veggies.
  9. Impact.  Greensgrow is not just a CSA, it’s a pioneer in the reuse of urban brownfields for green business.  And since we buy from other local producers and businesses, you are also doing your part to ensure the viability of the region’s farms and unique small businesses.
  10. We understand you.  We know what is important to urban consumers because we are urban consumers.  We’re entering the fifth season of our CSA, and it just keeps getting better and better!

And if you’re still not convinced, here’s what some of our past CSA members have had to say:

“We are always raving about Greensgrow and recommending it to others. It must be the best CSA around.”

“I really enjoy so many aspects of the CSA - the sense of community, seeing friends at Greensgrow, shopping in the nursery, getting fresh produce and especially trying new veggies and new recipes.”

“To me, Greensgrow is a miracle of abundance in a city hungry for local fresh foods and a sustainable economy. “

“I really enjoyed being a member this year. It was my first experience with the CSA, and it opened my eyes to a new way of experiencing food, while appreciating and supporting the local scene.”

“The CSA is one of the gems of Philadelphia. The range of types of foods is brilliant, and unlike any CSA I've known before. Plus, in addition to providing a great service, you are all so nice! It was a real pleasure to pick up our share every week.”

“I think the best part about the CSA is it forced us to cook real meals. After a long day it's awfully tempting to order out or crack open a can of soup, but when you've got fresh meat or produce that you don't want to waste, you're forced to do something with it. We had so many lovely meals that we never would have attempted if it weren't for the CSA share calling out from the fridge.”
