Interested in Getting Involved?
We are very fortunate at Greensgrow to have many dedicated volunteers who are returning to work with us again this season. We are a small operation with limited time and space, and can only work with so many people at once. Though we wish all the time that there were more hours in the day, we aren’t able to accept any new volunteers or interns at this time.
As always, we enjoy meeting others who are interested in greening Philadelphia and enjoying local food, so please come visit us at the farm during our Nursery or Farm Stand hours. If you would like to help out, one important thing you can do for Greensgrow right now is spread the word. Share our website with five friends who you think would be interested in our work and encourage them to visit.
If you’re thinking, “OK, but I still have time on my hands and want to get them dirty!” you might be interested in volunteering with one of the following organizations all collaborators with Greensgrow.
Urban Tree Connection
The Urban Tree Connection is a nonprofit organization that engages children and adults from low-income neighborhoods in community-based, urban-greening projects. The mission of the Urban Tree Connection is to assist urban communities to revitalize their neighborhoods by transforming abandoned open spaces into safe and functional places that inspire and promote positive human interaction.

Fair Food
Fair Food, a project of the White Dog Café Foundation, is dedicated to bringing locally grown food into the Philadelphia marketplace and promoting a humane, sustainable agriculture for the Greater Philadelphia region. Fair Food operates a Farmstand in the historic Reading Terminal Market that emphasizes local and artisanal foods from small-scale producers, like humanely raised meats, organic and specialty fruits and vegetables, and raw milk cheeses.

City Harvest
City Harvest is a unique partnership between the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society; the Philadelphia Prison System; and SHARE, a food cupboard distribution network. City Harvest is a community-based network that grows and distributes naturally-grown vegetables to Philadelphians who lack access to fresh produce or lack the resources to purchase it.
Inmates of the Philadelphia Prison System (with guidance from PHS staff) grow seeds into seedlings in a recently-refurbished greenhouse at the prison in Northeast Philadelphia. These seedlings are transplanted into the prison's Roots to Reentry garden and in our network of participating community gardens. Prison Inmates and volunteer gardeners grow the vegetables from the transplants, and through SHARE, the produce is distributed to food cupboards throughout the city.
