Composting and Vermiculture

What to do with it all? All the money? No, all the waste!

Creating waste could be seen as a liability but we like to think we've turned it into an asset. We strive to compost all our vegetation waste either through vermicomposting here on site or removal of the large stuff to our composts piles off site where waste is turned to compost and returned to the earth where it's needed.  Our on-site composting operation uses a series of large wooden bins to "pre-compost" food scraps and vegetative matter before it's fed to tens of thousands of worms for final processing.  The finished compost is then used in our high tunnels and in our potting mix to give our customers the high quality transplants and produce they deserve.  You can even buy compost and worms from us directly to start your own vermicomposting station!

We have regularly scheduled workshops on composting with worms led by our master composter Ryan Kuck.

Ryan will take you through the process of starting your own worm composting project at home. Vermicompost is probably THE best way to compost food scraps in the city. We figure we are able to divert a couple of tons a year from landfills. Even our office kitchen has a bucket.

Our goal is to recycle all we can at Greensgrow and promoting composting - from spring bulb die off all the way down to our Christmas trees.

Eat well. Eat local.
