The Nursery at Greensgrow

2011 We're open!! That's right. Philadelphia's most unique operation cranks open the gates again for Nursery Season 2011. Veteran performer? Avid gardener? Just thinking about getting your feet wet? Can't live without that basil plant on your deck? Like to check out and check into the sun? We're here for you every step of the way from our "How To Start a Garden"  series, seeds, soil, transplants, workshops... if it grows, we're on it. Greensgrow. Growers of Food Flowers and Neighborhoods like yours and if we were any closer... we'd be in your backyard with you.

The Greensgrow Nursery continues to grow and expand its offerings, workshops and hours of operation. As always our knowledgeable staff is on hand to help you explore these new products, and assist you in transforming your yard, patio, window box, or rooftop into your own beautiful green space. Garden Design Magazine says,”The city’s rep for vanguard culture is growing…Tour the growing houses at Greensgrow and pick up some unusual perennials or hard to find heirlooms.”

Unlike the big-box stores, we know plants because we grow plants. Beginning in February with the lengthening of the  days and the strength of the sun, our Nursery tRadio Flyer filledeam is busy in the greenhouse seeding our famous heirloom vegetable starters, propagating figs from our  own zone tested  and approved mother plants and transplanting thousands of starters into the plants that make Philadelphia green.

Hanging baskets, organic soil, tomato stakes and cages, water plants, pots,  native perennials,the areas largest assortment of grasses and enough  culinary herbs to make any chef swoon. The Greensgrow Nursery used to be just a spring affair. Now it’s bloomed into a year round romance. From pansies before Easter  through live Douglass firs for Christmas, plants for hummingbirds and cut flowers for your table, Greensgrow is the place to find the inner green you. Astrid and Dave spend hours and hours  all winter sourcing incredible finds. There’s something for the brand new grower and some help and advice to go along with it to  varieties that any wizened gardener will cherish. Dwarf hostas and heucheras, brunneras  and ladies mantle for shade; fillers, thrillers and spillers for your own container  creations, Angel trumpets and jasmine to transform your rooftop to a tropical isle. Sip locally roasted coffee, check out our gardening library, contemplate the life of fish in our aquaponics display and wander through our ever changing displays.
