Getting Involved
Want to get more involved? Here are some ideas.... |
We are a small operation with limited time and space, and can only work with so many people at once. And we are very fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers who return year after year.
We understand your yearning, it sits on your shoulder and nudges you around, especially when looking out the window of the office on a beautiful sunny day. For many that translates to a desire to go out there and do something like "Get my hands dirty" maybe by volunteering. Hey. Maybe even at a place like, well, let's say, Greensgrow.
Volunteers are an important part of our operation and we appreciate they role they play here. However, we'll tell you upfront that beyond the big gates our little green world is actually a small series of fairly complicated operations and probably not the right place for someone suffering from a momentary interest in the outdoors. We work in the rain, we work in the cold, we work in the heat. In other words we work very often under conditions that are not always sunny and mild and therefore not what people may expect or want from their volunteer experience.
Over time we have come to conclude that for us a core of dedicated "seasoned" ( if you will) individuals who come to Greensgrow on a regular basis and therefore know us , makes the most sense for us and them. If you think you have what it takes to dedicate some real time to volunteering with us, we hold a volunteer orientation day once a month.
All volunteers must attend this orientation day that lays out policies and procedures for all members of the Greensgrow family-staff, board, work-shares and volunteers. We hope to see you there. And here. Maybe even again and again.
Greensgrow is THE nationally recognized leader in urban farming (don't just take our word for it...) and is open to the public from early spring through Christmas. A small but dedicated staff runs a multifaceted operation, including a nursery, a farm market, and a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, proving that abandoned land is only abandoned if we choose to leave it that way.
