CSA
Greensgrow pioneers the way (again) with our twist on the widely successful Community Supported Agriculture model. |
Philadelphia's fastest selling ticket! Who would know you all loved cabbage so much?
The snow is melting: There are only 18 inches on the farm! If you do not like the snow then this winter has not been for you. But do not worry spring is only a few weeks away. People are starting to get excited about this year's CSA because the inquiries are becoming more frequent everyday. So here is what we know thus far.
CSA traditionally stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Consumers buy a "share" in a farms' season and each week get a box of produce and fruit produced on the farm. The Greensgrow version we refer to as City Supported Agriculture. You can read more about our CSA on the CSA page. For more on CSA's in general, visit the Robin Van En CSA Center at Wilson College.
We put a lot of thought into what goes into a CSA share. Based on comments received on each end-of-season survey and more in-depth random surveys, we make a few changes each and every season. We strive to provide a balance of old favorites as well as new and exciting things to try.
We've put together a general guideline and example of what will be available throughout the CSA season. Please note that this is only a guide and that actual crops received in the share are dependent on the cooperation of Mother Nature.
You tell us. But speak now and forever hold your peace, ‘cause it’s one day or the other.
In order to accommodate a growing number of CSA members, we have a new CSA hotline! Feel free to call regarding any CSA questions or concerns.
The CSA season is 25 weeks long, beginning mid May and ending early Nov. (Check the calendar for this season's actual dates.)
With a chef and a vegan on staff, we have no shortage of recipes and food advice for you.
Each year we host an Opening Party and Orientation for new and returning members.
Our CSA sells out every year. For good reason.
Here’s what some of our past CSA members have had to say:
The CSA is a season-long commitment, and is not for everyone. That’s why we have a Farm Stand!
Greensgrow is THE nationally recognized leader in urban farming (don't just take our word for it...) and is open to the public from early spring through Christmas. A small but dedicated staff runs a multifaceted operation, including a nursery, a farm market, and a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, proving that abandoned land is only abandoned if we choose to leave it that way.
