Nursery : Mike McGrath is coming to Greensgrow!
Posted by mary on 7/28/2010 14:00 (74 reads)

Mike McGrath, the host of You Bet Your Garden, (for those not in the know - it's a radio show that airs every Saturday morning at 11 on WHYY-FM [90.9], duh) is coming to teach a workshop at Greensgrow titled The Second Season: Gardens Get HOT When the Weather Cools DOWN on Saturday 8/14/10 at 1pm! Save your seat soon!!!

The workshop is free but you must RSVP. Contact greensgrowu@greensgrow.org to save your seat.

Here's a little blurb about the workshop below, as well as a link to the You Bet Your Garden website and the You Bet Your Garden page on the WHYY website:

Too many people focus on summer favorites like tomatoes, peppers, sweet corn and such, and neglect one of the most productive gardening times—after those crops have run their course. Mike will walk you through the late season (August and September) planting of great edibles like garlic, lettuce, spinach, broccoli, and pansies (yes they’re edible—and they contain the natural nutrient that can cure varicose and spider veins!). Plus Mike will reveal how to easily overwinter tender perennials like rosemary and peppers (you’ll never have to start new hot or sweet peppers once you learn the trick of keeping the same plants alive for decades!); and fall planting ‘musts’ like new lawns and Spring bulbs. He’ll also reveal why you should not prune ANYTHING in the Fall.

When the planting weather cools down, the cool planters step up!

Nursery : Hypertufa Workshop
Posted by mary on 7/28/2010 13:40 (56 reads)

Learn how to easily cast your own pots using Hypertufa, a light weight combination of aggregates and Portland cement. It's all the rage these days and we have a two day workshop starting Saturday 8/21/10 at 12pm to teach you all about it. You can come and watch for free or pay a fee of $20 and make your own pot (we supply all the materials!).

The educational portion will last until about 1:30pm, while the interactive make-your-own pot portion will last until about 3pm on Saturday.People who participate in the pot making will need to come back on Sunday 8/22/10 at 12pm to pick up their pots.

Whether you just want to watch or you're ready to particpate, you must RSVP! Contact greensgrowu@greensgrow.org to save your seat.
