Amanda Feifer, fermenting enthusiast behind phickle.com comes to the Greensgrow Community Kitchen to talk cultures and tea in this workshop on the ubiquitous and sometimes magical brew, Kombucha. You’ll learn the process for making this culture-rich brew two ways (continuous and single batch) and we’ll discuss caring for the culture that is needed to make it, and techniques for adding flavor and fizz! We’ll play around with secondary fermentation and discuss bottling tips, bacterial benefits, and taste finished ferments.
All participants will leave with a SCOBY (the culture to make kombucha at home) and some starter tea as well as an info packet with recipes, tips, techniques, etc.
Get to meet Amanda right before she goes out on book tour for her new book, Ferment Your Vegetables. When she’s not concocting crazy vats of bubbly things in the kitchen or ranting against the use of anti-bacterial soaps, she’s doing what she loves most: teaching people to make their own fermented foods, from kimchi and kefir to kombucha and koji. She lives in South Philly with her husband, Jake, and their rambunctious pit bull pup, Laika.
PLEASE NOTE: Cancellations within 72 hours of the start of class are nonrefundable or transferable. Workshop refunds and transfers requested earlier than 72 hours before the class start time will be charged a $5.00 processing fee.
