Gardening with Native Plants for Urban Pollinators

April 16, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

nativegarden2-300x200Learn how to use native plants to attract beneficial pollinating insects to your garden from Astrid and Lynn Ellen, two of Greensgrow’s top horticulture experts. This is a great time of year to get natives established in the ground and in containers. Your garden can provide a home and food for pollinators that will increase the productivity of your garden’s flowers and vegetables.

You’ll get to see our native plant garden and along with a planting demonstration. Everyone will get the chance to work with our instructors to plan a small pollinator garden of your own and learn what will work best in containers or in your specific in ground location. We will also introduce you to native alternatives to commonly used ornamental plants.

Participants will get a $25 gift card to purchase natives or any plants and supplies of your choice included in the registration fee.

Astrid is an avid urban container gardener with a decade of experience growing perennials and shrubs on the sidewalks of Kensington. Lynn Ellen works at Greensgrow and experiments with plants in her shady back yard in West Philly. She has a BS in Forestry and an MA in urban studies and was a Penn State Extension Urban Garden Advisor in Philadelphia.
